Ghanaian Deputy AG Rejects 'Political Prisoner' Claim for Wontumi

Ghana's Deputy Attorney General has rejected the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) claim that Wontumi is a 'political prisoner,' stating that Wontumi chose a trial over a plea bargain. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) also dismissed the claim, citing the judgment as proof of wrongdoing.

Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has dismissed claims that the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was selectively prosecuted while others implicated in the illegal mining case were allowed to escape punishment.
