This Day in History: King Duncan I Dies in Battle, Macbeth Becomes Scottish Ruler
On August 14, 1040, King Duncan I of Scotland was killed in battle against Macbeth, who then became the new ruler. Both medieval figures later became characters in William Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth."
