Kenet Kaunda je bio prvi predsednik Zambije. Ne Nambije već Zambije. Vladao je od sticanja nezavisnosti 1964. do 1991. godine, kada je poslušao kritike, dozvolio višestranačke izbore i izgubio. Kaunda je nacionalizovao prirodna bogatstva, otvarao škole, bolnice, borio se protiv rasizma i kolonijalizma, bio među prvim članovima Pokreta nesvrstanih.
