On This Day: Lord Byron Swims the Hellespont in 1810
On May 3, 1810, George Gordon, famously known as Lord Byron, swam across the Hellespont, now known as the Dardanelles, from the European to the Asian coast. He was 22 years old at the time, traveling in the East during a period that would profoundly influence his work.
