This Rare Walking Shark Hardly Ever Leaves Home, New Study Finds

A year-long study of the Raja Ampat epaulette shark found some of the highest population densities ever recorded for a walking shark, revealed that coral reefs act as nurseries for young sharks, and showed that most individuals spend their entire lives within remarkably small areas. The findings offer the first detailed look at the life of this little-known species and provide a critical roadmap for protecting one of the world's most geographically restricted sharks.
