Rusko, Myanmar a Thajsko chtějí postavit průplav, který výrazně zkrátí cestu lodí z Thajského zálivu do Andamanského moře. Oproti stávající situaci, by přepravní společnosti ušetřily čtyři až šest dnů plavby a průplav by měl i mimořádný geopolitický význam.
