Alūksne hospital helps local farmers get rid of surplus produce

'Kabaci vajag?' or 'Fancy a courgette?' is one of the most typical questions asked at harvest time, when there’s a bumper crop in your own and your neighbours’ gardens – and the same is true right now of tomatoes and other garden produce. This prompted staff at Alūksne Hospital to reach out to residents, farmers and home producers, asking them to share their surplus produce and make donations so that the patients’ menu could be expanded, Latvian Radio reports.
