Krnov Addresses Former Landfill Turned Nature Reserve with Rare Toad Population

The Krnov municipality is deciding the future of a former sandpit and landfill area under Cvilín, which has transformed into a valuable natural habitat for the critically endangered common spadefoot toad. Such sites are rare in the Czech Republic, and the temporary protection for the area is nearing its end.

Dříve skládka, teď cenná přírodní oblast s výskytem vzácné ropuchy. Krnov řeší, co s lokalitou pod Cilínem

Krnovská radnice řeší, co dále s lokalitou pod Cvilínem. Bývalá pískovna a později skládka se proměnila v cenou přírodní oblast. Vyskytuje se tam kriticky ohrožená ropucha krátkonohá. Podobných lokalit je v Česku málo. Přechodná ochrana ale končí v srpnu a město už připravuje podklady k prodloužení. Oblast je ale nutné udržovat a to teď možné není.
