Joan of Arc Posthumously Acquitted in 1431

In 1431, during the Hundred Years' War, Joan of Arc, a peasant girl who inspired the French against English invaders, was tried in Rouen. Captured by the enemy, she was condemned as a heretic by an English-organized Inquisition trial and burned at the stake, later being posthumously acquitted.

1431. gadā, Simtgadu kara laikā, Ruānā tiesāja Žannu d’Arku – zemnieku meiteni, kura bija iedvesmojusi frančus cīņai pret angļu iebrucējiem, bet kritusi ienaidnieka gūstā. Angļu organizētā inkvizīcijas prāvā viņa tika atzīta par ķeceri un sadedzināta uz sārta. Taču angļi karu zaudēja, un Žannas lietu Francijā iztiesāja atkārtoti, 1456. gada 7. jūlijā viņu pēc nāves attaisnojot visās apsūdzībās.
