Japan's Government Proposes Changes to Retrial System, Limiting Prosecutors' Appeals

The Japanese government is expected to present a proposal to the Liberal Democratic Party to generally prohibit prosecutors from appealing decisions to start a retrial, allowing it only under sufficient reason.

再審制度の見直しをめぐり、政府は、再審開始の決定に対する検察による不服申し立てを原則禁止し、十分な理由がある場合にかぎって可能とするなどとした案を、7日、自民党に示す見通しです。党内には検察の不服申し立ての全面禁止を求める意見もあり、法案提出に向けた調整がヤマ場を迎えます。
