Iwate Ofunato Forest Fire: One Year On, Restoration Challenges Remain
One year after the largest forest fire in Japan's Heisei era devastated Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture, reconstruction of homes and livelihoods is underway. However, challenges persist in restoring over half of the burnt artificial forests, where the direction of recovery remains unclear.
