Man falls to death from crowded train, Railways ordered to pay his family Rs 8 lakh

The Calcutta high court ordered the Railways to pay compensation to a deceased passenger's family. The court ruled the death was an untoward incident under the Railways Act. This decision overturned a prior tribunal order that had rejected the family's claim. Evidence showed the man was a bona fide passenger traveling on a purchased ticket. The Railways must now deposit the compensation amount with interest.
