Ghana Regulator Links High Water Losses to Consumer Tariffs and Metering Needs

Ghana’s Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has stated that rising consumer tariffs are partially offsetting significant water distribution losses managed by Ghana Water Company Limited. Officials are mandating the implementation of advanced metering systems to improve tracking and reduce non-revenue water.

The Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Shafic Suleman, has disclosed that a portion of Ghana Water Company Limited’s (GWCL) unaccounted-for water is factored into tariffs paid by consumers.
