Dutch RIVM Study Finds High Levels of PFAS in Breast Milk

A large study by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) found that breast milk in one out of five cases contains excessive levels of harmful PFAS chemicals, causing concern among researchers.

Moedermelk bevat in één op de vijf gevallen te veel schadelijke pfas. Dat blijkt uit een groot onderzoek van het Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu (RIVM) onder ruim 1600 vrouwen in Nederland. Een te hoog pfas-gehalte in de melk kan schadelijk zijn voor baby's. Ze worden niet meteen ziek, maar het kan wel hun immuunsysteem aantasten, waardoor ze bevattelijker zijn voor infectieziekten.
