India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its investigation into Nashik astrologer 'Bhondu Baba' by summoning NCP leader Rupali Chakankar for questioning later this week.

Shiv Sena (UBT) has demanded that NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, who headed a trust run by Ashok Kharat, be made a co-accused in the case, over her links to him.

Rupali Chakankar, former chairperson of the state women's commission, was questioned for six hours by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT is probing allegations against jailed astrologer Ashok Kharat and focused on Chakankar's association with Kharat and his trust.

Astrologer Ashok Kharat is accused of raping a woman and exploiting several others. State women's commission chief Rupali Chakankar resigned after outrage over her alleged links with him.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar alleged that attempts were underway to shield the influential people linked to the self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, who was arrested earlier this week in Nashik.
Rupali Chakankar has resigned as the chief of the NCP Maharashtra women's wing amid an astrologer scandal and the Kharat row, having previously stepped down from the State Commission for Women due to links with Kharat, and denying any connection to his financial dealings.

Rupali Chakankar has been confirmed as the chief of the NCP women's wing, while the opposition is demanding a case be filed against her and ministers allegedly linked to Kharat.
