Former Ambassador Godknows Igali condemned the poor state of the Benin-Asaba and Niger Delta roads, directing sharp criticism at Works Minister David Umahi.

Severely deteriorated road conditions on Nigeria’s Benin-Asaba highway have trapped motorists for up to four days, drawing widespread criticism from drivers and media outlets over infrastructure neglect.

Religious leader Rev. David Ugolor called on the Nigerian federal government to ensure full transparency and accountability in the concession process for the deteriorating Benin-Asaba highway.

Following presidential directives, Works Minister David Umahi inspected the Benin-Asaba Expressway and apologized to commuters over delays, while the federal government announced a review of concessioned roads after contractors failed to deliver adequate technical capacity.

Minister Dave Umahi has ordered the arrest of contractors removing asphalt from the Benin-Asaba road and directed a concessionaire to quit the project over poor work, as the Presidency blames the contractor for the road's failure.

Umahi is scheduled to inspect the Benin-Asaba road due to worsening gridlock, aiming to address the severe traffic congestion. The inspection will assess the situation and potentially lead to measures to alleviate the problem.
